80's! 90's! It's All Bad Fashion, ALL THE TIME!

Ok. I spent 3 hours trying to figure out how to set up an online poll and then I started swearing out loud and when Harmony walked over to me, grinned and chirped, "Shit, shit, shit, Mama!" I decided that it's just not in the cards for me.

So, here they are in all their glory. Thank you to everyone who participated. Vote in comments and I'll announce the winner on Friday!

1.

2.

3.

4.

5.

6.

And this one is just a bonus picture, courtesy of Tanya at Warcrygirl. How much do we love her? And how much did the dentist love the guy (guy? right?) with the shit-eating grin?

2. Because she reminds me of myself when I was 9. And also - liquid liner, lol.

margaret said...

My lord. The 80s were good to NO ONE.

Aimee said...

Am I the first one? Seriously? This makes me feel a bit better. I thought I was the only one with huge hair in the 90's. ;-)

This is pretty tough. My votes are for:

1. Number 2, the quintessential 80's girl
2. Runner-up for number 5, the total 70's sweet girl.

Aimee said...

Aw, man... I missed it going back and forth between #2 and #5.

:-P

Andria said...

lol... these are hideously awesome. I say 1.

buffi said...

It has to be #1 because EEEEK! Scrunchy!!!!

Shania said...

I vote for #5. That is totally a Gunne Sax dress, isn't it?

joti said...

OMG I vote for #6. That dress, that hair...ouch.

Beth said...

#1, because that was me at age 8. Totally. Except I had a Swatch phone.

Lindsay said...

#1 definitely. I looked like her in the 80's/early 90's...right down to the permed bangs.

*Mini* said...

lol These are great!!! I vote #1 or #2.

Kristie said...

Oh, definitely number one. The scrunchy puts it right over the top. :)

Heather Appel said...

#2... that girl is WORKIN it out and proud of it! :P

Jen said...

All are great pics! Kudos to the brave, funny women who shared them - you know we've all been there... My vote HAS to go to #1 - the scrunchie, the glasses, and the best part: the tie-dyed shirt! Add some stirrup pants and hightops and it could have been me!!!

Erin said...

1!!!!

Michelle said...

Number 6 fer sure, like, I mean, gag me with a spoon! LOL. The hair and the classic puff sleeves on the dress...winner!

kandi said...

#1 beyond a doubt! lol Bad thing is, that is what I look like in the morning!

Definately the one where the are on their way to prom(?) umm, red hair means.....oh yeah, red dress, perfect!

Mandy in MN

I love them all and wish I had some of mine to post, the are all at my parents house and I wasn't able to get them in time.

You all are some brave ladies!!!

Anonymous said...

I vote for 2!

PandaBear said...

#1 - definitely. The scrunchy should be burned at the stake.

#3 - runner up (what happened to the other half of her hair?!)

Book and Hook said...

#3
She just looks so painfully insecure, that and the hair. Flat on top and fluffed/backcombed on the sides and back. Add some glasses tinted blue at the top so it looks like she is wearing blue eyeshadow, and she could be my friend Brenda's sister Kim

cinmar11 said...

#3...talk about a bad hair day

Heather said...

#2. Because of the belt scarf. Heh.

Jessica said...

I gotta go with #2 also. She is HOT SHIT!!
At least she seems to think so. Plus, I feel her pain

Anonymous said...

#5 has way more pictures that are better than that one. Trust me I know.

Number 1 !!!
For a second I thought someone broke into my mom's scrapbooking picture supply, because seriously, that is ME in 1992.
Ten bucks says she's wearing LA Gears.

June Cleaver said...

Oh, without a doubt, #3. The hair, the "Hottie" shirt and that "You know you want this" look. Hands down winner.

John B said...

Wow, I thought my house burning down in 1989 was a curse. When I remember my picture collection I guess it were a blessing.....

Liz said...

#6 totally for sure. LOL...

OMG that hair

Reiven said...

I choose #6 because of her hair, it's perfect 80's!

Can we do another contest like this one? I didn't have enough time to find my pics! ::bummed out!::

Number 6, totally!!!

Number three.

I know EXACTLY who you were trying to be. That's the samantha fox pose all over, and you even tried to poof the hair like hers. "awwww touch me! I wanna feel yer body!"

...and I only know because we all wanted to be her then and tried it too. (sigh)

Classic.

Number 5, for me. Do you think the person misunderstood and posted a picture from them in the 1880's?

Elizabeth said...

#1 that totally could have been me! Scrunchi, tie-dyed t-shirt, glasses, the phone, the look on her face!

Thanks to everyone for posting their pics!

#1 cause man she could be me.

I like number 3 the best!

Not a Granny said...

It has to be #1. Look at the phone, it has a cord attached to the handpiece? Who ever saw such a thing?

Regina said...

There are 5, count em 5 mullets in the last picture AND no two are the same color. That's got to be some kind of record.

Real Live Lesbian said...

#5 for me.

I would have DIED for that Gunny Sak Dress! Died for it. I had to settle for a prairie skirt and a poofy top. No wonder I'm screwed up.

Keetha said...

#2 - because of the liquid eyeliner tatoo and the 'tude that just radiates from the photo.

#1 is a very close second, howevah.

justmylife said...

Got to be #2. Liquid eyeliner and attitude!!!

Jules said...

Okay - I was going to vote for #1 cause of the scrunchy but then I looked at the prom picture #6 and hello? All that teased out hair and those sleeves? Definitely gets my vote.

And I agree with Margaret - the 80's were good to NO ONE.

Luann said...

#5 please. And I wore the dress in your church pic to the prom.

Heather said...

#5. Why, you ask?

GUNNE. SAX.

'Nuff said.

Michelle said...

I'm going for #2! the liquid eyeliner puts it over the edge for me!

ctiger said...

My vote is for #1 she reminds me of a few of my girl friends back in the day. LOL. I wasn't brave enough to post any of my 80's 90's pics so cudoos for the ones who were.

Definitely the prom picture! I love the guys' cumberbuns that match their date's dresses. The puffy sleeves and huge permed hair is classic too!

I had a dress just like that when I was in junior high.

Back when I lived

in a little house

on the prairie.

Emily Gore said...

OK... It's a hard toss up between one and two. #1 just looks waaaaay too much like ME when I was growing up (YIKES!) but the face that #2 actually POSED for it and WORKED IT gets my vote.

>>>> #2 <<<< go girl! Rock On!

Em said...

#1 because that outfit was totally something you could have spotted me in back in the day, lmao. I had such a collection of hypercolor shirts and tie-dyes....oh lord the 80's/90's were crazy! :P

I loved the 80's.

I gotta tell you, #6 scared the hell out of me with all those people's faces smudged out. Reminded me of a horror movie I saw once (can't remember the name) where a certain camera made the people that were about to be caught by the horror. Crap! What was the name of that stupid movie. That is going to bother me for the rest of the day now.

Oh ya, I am supposed to vote aren't I? #5 because that was my hair (except mine used to be blond. It's sort of gray now).

Anonymous said...

#5, please.

Christamatina said...

#5, I think the little house look went out in the 1800's. lol

Amber said...

I'd have to say #3 - becasue, seriously - that just cracks me up. She's wearing a HOTTIE tshirt with that hair! (I'm sorry whoever it is)

RunninL8 said...

Huh. Well...I still wear my hair in a pony with a scruchy...NOT that high mind you. Is that bad? I mean, they still sell them and all..

Ok, so #5 gets my vote. was she wearing a chastity belt as well? Good christ...

Also, I SAW THIS TOO LATE! I was a cheezy Jersey Girl Heavy Metal Maiden Wanna-be But My Mommy Wouldn't Let Me! Please extend the contest or do it again! I wanna go through my old pics and submit one!!!!!

miss bliss said...

#2. For the combination of bad fashion items.

JLew said...

I vote for #6, that was what the 80's were all about (unfortunately). Wish I had access to my old pics, I could've found a good one - remember tube socks and running shorts??

One Crazy Adventure said...

OMG!!! I am totally going with #3. The look... and the pose says it all... she really thinks she is a hottie. I am rolling on the floor.

Not that I'm saying that she's not a hottie... I'm sure one of the later decades made her a hottie.

because it is available as a choice and it would explain where your use of language came from

I'm going to have to go with #1 with the Prom Queen as a close runner up. Love it! Too funny.

i love number 2, and think i have a pic of myself like that. also the wedding photo, i think someone might have borrowed it form my album (i married in 1992 and my hair was BIG!) but my vote... yeah number 2. the eyeliner tattoo!

#3 because of the 'tude.

Dear g-d, please don't let the "what once was in fashion comes back in fashion" edict ring true for the 80s.

Eek. Awkward teen years + the 80s = me.

ultimately, my vote goes to #6. Even though only one person's face is visible, look at all of those 'offenders!'

ongreenbeers said...

Ha man, I read your blog but never really comment, but I HAD to comment this- number 2, without a doubt. I still draw "tattoos" these days.. my mam told me if I can put up with one for a month, she'll buy it.. she never did!!

Jenster said...

I vote for #6 because I had the same kind of poofy hair and poofy sleeves at my prom! The photos with the big owl glasses came in close because I had the same ones. Apparently there was only one style of glasses back then and that style can be summed up as HUGE!

Sandy C said...

I have to go with #6 - they all look so "hot" and "cool" but I must say that if the bonus picture was in the running it would be my choice. The mullets. So cool!

SLRd said...

#3. Because she's fierce.

Anonymous said...

#5..I'm sorry..the hair, pearls, itty bitty flower print..it's just all kinds of bad

Tiffany said...

I'm voting for number 3. And I think the girl in number 5 stole my dress. I swear I had the very SAME one.

Anonymous said...

Oh yea. #6. I can relate too well to that one!

Mom of 5 said...

If I had to pick the one who looks most like I did, I'd say #2.

But for the contest, I say #3 all the way. Hottie!

Nana said...

I have to vote for two choices. Number 2, because she obviously thinks she is so totally cool (didn't we all?), and Number 5, because she's so cute, plus I had THAT blouse and THOSE pearls and similar hair :P.

igs4me said...

# 3

Number 2? hahahaha! The best.

Number 5 gets honorable mention because I think I had the same dress.

J.

Anonymous said...

It has to be #2 with the dark pantyhose and big glasses. Totally me circa 1986. To this day I refuse to buy "coffee," "taupe," or even "suntan." "Nude" and "Beige Mist" all the way. And SMALL glasses.

OMH said...

#6 gets my vote.....so much hair "Jacked up to Jesus aka....Fort Worth Hair"

Sharfa said...

Without a doubt #5. "The pearls just make the outfit" She said with Carson Kressley flair.

#1 could be from today with the resurgence of tie dye and they STILL SELL SCRUNCHIES!

Now I have to go back and look at some of my baaaaaad 80's fashion.

Ok, so I can't really tell if this is serious or not, but these aren't the initials of the person who sent me the pic, so I'm confused. And I asked and got permission to post it..? If you are the owner of this pic (#6) and you'd like it removed, please email me at boobscontact@gmail.com and I'll take it down immediately.

#1 all the way because OMG - when the page loaded I thought somehow you had gotten a picture of ME freshman year of high school. Ahh, 1986! YUCK! :-)

Thanks for the memories - I think!
